Accused Pool Pervert Denied Bond

WEST KENDALL (CBSMiami) — A South Florida man remains in jail after being arrested for disturbing crimes against children and this man is no stranger to the law, according to police.

Christopher Mora, 27, was arrested Sept. 15th and charged with two counts of Lewd and Lascivious Molestation on a Child. The Miami Dade State Attorney's office says that charge can lead to a life term if defendants are convicted.

According to investigators, Mora befriended two young children, a 6-year-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, at the community pool in the neighborhood where they all live near SW 100th Street and 162nd Avenue in West Kendall.

Police said Mora fondled both kids over their bathing suits.

Mora was denied bond after authorities learned he has a history of preying on children and was on probation when the latest incidents occurred, according to police.

Records show he was convicted and served time in prison for child abuse in 2008.

"I hope he stays behind bars for good and we have to monitor and as a community get together and in fact make sure that all of us get together because this is absolutely unacceptable," said parent Javier Palenque. "There's a lot of sickos in this world and what concerns me most is that we actually live with one around."

Palenque planned to show other neighbors a photograph of Mora in order to alert them about this case and to see if there are any other victims who might come forward.

"It's terrible, I mean it's just horrible that he's done that again because I heard that he's done it prior so it's just terrible," said an unnamed woman. "I just hope he doesn't come back because we have lots of kids here and we're just going to try and get the word out."

"He tried to befriend my husband and I and it seemed like he wanted to get close to our children and wanted to find a way to get into our house," she said. "Maybe that's how some of these crimes happen. You have to be very careful. And I urge other parents to watch out."

That woman did not want to show all of her face during the interview because she lives next to Mora.

CBS4's Peter D'Oench also spoke to another neighbor who did not want to show all of his face. But he wanted to speak out as well, saying, "This is shocking. This is disturbing. I never thought he would do something like that."

At a bond court apperance earlier this week, the Judge delivered a stern warning to Mora, telling him he should have no contact with the children who he is accused of molesting. "That means no e-mails, no texts, no phone calls, no direct or indirect contact with them. You are not to go anywhere near them."

Mora had nothing to say in court about his case. He faces an arraignment on October 5th.
