Abortion Waiting Period Bill Moves Forward In Fla. Senate

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — A bill which would require women to wait 24 hours before getting an abortion moved forward in the Senate.
It advanced to third and final reading in the state Senate Thursday. It passed the House Wednesday.
Senate Democrats sought unsuccessfully to alter or obstruct the bill with a series of amendments, including one to require a similar waiting period for a man to get a vasectomy.
The bill said legally required informed consent procedures including an ultrasound exam must happen 24 hours before the procedure, in effect requiring two clinic trips a day apart. Democratic amendments also sought to add waivers or exceptions to the waiting period and to a requirement that a woman seeking a rape or incest exception provide documentation of the crime.
Majority Republicans easily turned back the amendments.
