911 Calls Released In Arrest Of Broncos' DE Elvis Dumervil
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – A new photo obtained by the celebrity news website TMZ shows Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil had his shirt untucked when he was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a firearm on Saturday night on Miami Beach.
The photo, TMZ says, could be relevant because the alleged victim claims Dumervil lifted his shirt to show her his gun as a threat.
Det. Vivian Hernandez said Dumervil and another man, Andy Agust, were arrested in the 700 block of Collins Avenue after they got into some sort of parking dispute. Police confiscated two firearms from Dumervil and Agust.
A person nearby called 911 and said, "I have a guy outside with a gun pointing to somebody. He just pulled it up to somebody else, I guess, traffic, something happened. I don't know, we got in here and we see him outside."
Despite the caller's claims, the police reports do not mention that any guns were "pointed" at anyone.
Police say they also received a call from a person also involved in the dispute who said he was in fear for his life.
A spokesman for the Denver Broncos said that the team is aware of the matter and continuing to gather facts.
"Our organization is aware of the matter and is continuing to gather the facts. This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course."
Dumervil is a Miami native and one of the Broncos' top defensive players.
Dumvervil led the NFL in sacks in 2009 with a club-record 17. But he missed all of 2010 with a torn pectoral muscle and was hampered last season by a nagging shoulder injury, followed by an ankle ailment. Still, he finished the year with 9 ½ sacks and 42 tackles, and made the Pro Bowl team.
Dumervil's attorney, Harvey Steinberg, said he expects authorities to clear his client after they conclude their investigation.
"No assault or aggravated assault took place," he said, declining to comment further.
