Carolina To Start Cam Newton Vs. Dolphins
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Miami Dolphins fans craving to see a number one draft pick at the quarterback position will have their chance Friday night. The only problem is it will be the quarterback of the Carolina Panthers.
Carolina head coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday that 2011 number one overall pick Cam Newton will start against the Dolphins this Friday.
"It's pretty much following the line of what we had planned through training camp, and that's to go back and forth with our guys," Rivera said. "It's a good opportunity."
Newton was the Heisman Trophy winning quarterback at Auburn last year who took the team to a national championship. He's got freakish size, 6'6", and can throw a frozen rope to his receivers.
Newton played well in the Panthers first preseason game, but Rivera said he will wait until next week to name the starting quarterback for the team's season opener against the Arizona Cardinals.
