$625K In Gold Bars Stolen At Miami Int'l Airport
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The FBI in Miami is investigating the theft of 625-thousand dollars in gold bars stolen at Miami International Airport.
The gold, packed in six boxes, arrived just before 5 a.m. on American Airlines flight 902 from Guayaquil, Ecuador. It was bound for a business in Doral. The plane docked at Gate D3.
The gold was unloaded from the cargo area of the plane, and driven around to the other side of the plane on a transport cart. At 5:20 a tug from Gate D pulled up, stopped at the cart and then drove to an alley out of view of the airport's security cameras, according to a Miami-Dade police incident report.
At 6:20 a.m., the cart was found in front of Gate D 19 – the gold was gone.
The FBI is coordinating the investigation into the theft.
