600 Pounds Of Marijuana & Hash Found On Small Boat
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A little boat seized off Miami Beach over the weekend by the U. S. Coast Guard yielded a big haul – 600 pounds of marijuana and hash.
The 15 foot center console boat was heading westbound Sunday when it was spotted by a Coast Guard Miami chopper. Thinking something didn't look right, the chopper crew called for it to be checked out.
Coast Guard ships from both Miami Beach and Ft. Lauderdale raced to intercept the vessel. After they stopped it without incident, a search uncovered 76 bricks of marijuana, and 26 bricks of hash.
The two people on board the boat were taken into custody and the drugs were turned over to law enforcement at the Coast Guard's Miami Beach station.
The estimated street value of the drugs was a little over half a million dollars, according to the Coast Guard.
