Child Loses Mom, Grandma, Stepfather In Double Murder Suicide
SUNRISE (CBS4) – Neighbors stop by with flowers and stuffed animals, mourning the loss of a Sunrise family who died in an apparent double murder-suicide.
A five-year old child was the only witness to a shooting which left her mother, grandmother and stepfather dead.
Sunrise police have identified the three people who died in the double murder suicide that took place Sunday night inside a home at the Del Rio apartments, located at 4004 Del Rio Way.
The deadly violence shocked friends who've known the family for years.
"A family that has tragedy just attached to them," said Alex Colon. "It seems their destiny was just tragedy."
Marcus Trotman reportedly shot his wife, Danielle Lorenzo, in the downstairs bedroom around 7 p.m. Sunday night. He then allegedly shot Lorenzo's mother Linda Scudera before he turned the gun on himself.
According to neighbors, Lorenzo's daughter Angelique Smith, ran to a neighbor's house after the shooting.
"There was a five year child that had been inside the house at the time of the shoot," said police spokesman Sgt. Rodney Hailey. "That child left the residence, went next door to the neighbor and alerted the neighbor that shots had been fired."
Police say Lorenzo and Trotman were found dead on the scene but Scudera, the grandmother, was rushed to Broward General Medical Center where she later died.
The fact that the girl was inside when the shooting took place horrified neighbors.
"I wanted to die when I heard. It was so devastating for the little girl, she's scared for her life," said Judy Colon.
"Friday morning when I was coming in from work, I saw Linda with the baby girl standing outside waiting for the school bus," said Alex Colon, "To think I will never see them again, this is just a scary thought."
Trotman, police said, had a history of violence against his wife. He was arrested on August 21st of this year by Sunrise Police for simple battery on his wife.
As for Angelique, she is said to be safe and staying with family friends as the Department of Children and Families tries to locate her biological father.
