4 WWII Chaplains Honored At Boynton Beach Service
BOYNTON BEACH (CBS4) - A memorial service will be held Sunday in Boynton Beach for four U.S. military chaplains who died during World War II when their transport ship sank.
The four chaplains served aboard the SS. Dorchester which went down February 1943 in the north Atlantic after being struck during the night by a torpedo. Each of the four chaplains gave their life jackets to men who could not find theirs in the dark.
The chaplains went down with the ship.
The Boynton Veterans Council organized the memorial service which will be held at 2 p.m. at Temple Beth Kodesh in Boynton Beach.
