4 Band Members Charged With Hazing At Fla. A&M University
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — Hazing at Florida A&M University has been under intense scrutiny since a drum major died in November. Now in an unrelated incident, four FAMU band members have been charged with hazing in connection with a series of beatings and paddlings last year at a private home in Tallahassee.
Court records released Friday show Denise Bailey, Brandon Benson, Hakeem Birch and Anthony Mingo were booked and released on bail from the Leon County Jail.
The four students were in a subgroup of the clarinet section known as the Clones. The four students were booked and released on bail earlier this week.
The latest charges are separate from an incident where another female band member was beaten so severely that her thigh was broken.
FAMU drum major Robert Champion also died after an alleged hazing incident. Authorities say he suffered blows to his body during a hazing ritual in Orlando. No charges have been filed in his death.
