37 Cuban Political Prisoners Released, Bound For Spain
HAVANA (CBS4) - Nearly 40 Cuban political prisoners will arrive in Madrid Friday, after the Castro government ordered their release and expulsion from the country. They were placed aboard a government-chartered Spanish aircraft Thursday, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald, along with their families.
The group who departed Thursday brings to 115 the dissidents who have left Cuba in an agreement between the Castro government and the Catholic church.
The Spanish Foreign Affairs ministry said the families will stay briefly in Madrid, and will then be resettled around the country.
The names of those leaving Cuba were not immediately made public, unlike past releases.
