Opening Arguments Begin Tuesday In Trial Of Accused Cop Killer
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A jury has been seated for the trial of a man accused of killing a Miami police officer.
Opening arguments are set to begin Tuesday morning at 9 a.m.
Andrew Rolle, 27, has claimed self-defense in the 2008 shooting death of 30-year old Miami Detective James Walker.
On January, 8th, 2008, Walker, who was off duty, was sitting in his parked unmarked department vehicle near Northeast 164th Street and 18th Avenue in North Miami Beach when Rolle reportedly tried to get in the car with him.
Rolle, who had gone to the area to shoot someone, had mistaken the car for that of his accomplice's who was driving an identical make and model, according to investigators.
When Rolle realized it was not his accomplice's car, he and Detective Walker exchange gunfire. Walker was killed.
Rolle ran off but was apprehended in front of the Miami Police Department headquarters one week later.
Rolle, who is charged murder and attempted murder, faces a life sentence if convicted.
