3 Killed, 1 Injured After Car Ends Up In Homestead Canal
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A horrific accident claimed the lives of three teens and left one in the hospital.
It happened early Saturday morning in the 2900 block of East Palm Ave in Homestead.
Much of Saturday, friends, and family of the victims visited the scene in hopes of getting a better understanding of what happened.
Homestead Police said it all began around 3 a.m., when the car the teens were in cut off an officer, who then tried to pull them over.
"Twice in the night officers attempted to stop this vehicle each time it turned its lights off and fled," said Eric Rodriguez with Homestead Police.
Officers attempted to stop the car a third time but pulled over the wrong vehicle, but during that traffic stop, they were informed about the accident.
"The person in that vehicle was not the vehicle we were looking for however that person advised us they heard a large bang at the 2900 block of East Palm Drive. HPD units canvas that area at that point the vehicle was found in the canal," added Rodriguez.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded and they pulled the three victims out of the canal.
"One of those victims was transported to Jackson South the other two were transported to Homestead hospital, at this point all of those three victims were pronounced deceased," said Rodriguez.
"But, there is one survivor," a fourth occupant of the vehicle was located. That occupant is in stable condition at Jackson South."
Police have not yet released the victims' names.
