2nd UM Student In A Month Struck, Killed By Driver

CORAL GABLES (CBS4) - For the second time in less than a month, a University of Miami student has been killed while trying to cross a street near campus.

Coral Gables police spokeswoman Kelly Denham said the student, whose name has not been released, was trying to cross a street off Red Road Saturday night when he was hit by a car. The driver involved in the accident stopped, stayed on the scene and has been cooperating with police.

The accident scene was not far from where Jared Paul Jones, 21, was struck while trying to cross Red and Blue Roads on November 13th. Jones was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition; he died ten days later. After the accident, the driver reportedly took off.

Police have identified 45-year-old Valentina Andrews Hubsch, a local model, as the driver of the car, but so far no formal charges have been filed. Hubsch's Attorney Albert Levin said his client was behind the wheel of the car that hit Jones, but he is sure that once the facts are out, his client would be cleared.
