2nd Man Arrested In Hernandez Murder Case

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (CBSMiami) – Police in Connecticut have arrested a second man they believe is connected to the murder case involving former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez, according to the Boston Globe.

Hernandez is being held on first-degree murder charges for the death of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd. Police arrested Carlos Ortiz, 27, from Bristol, Connecticut and are holding him on $1.5 million bond, but his charges have not been made public, according to MassLive.com.

Hernandez was denied bail during a Wednesday hearing that saw prosecutors charge him with not only first-degree murder, but also five gun charges. Hernandez is accused of orchestrating the execution-style shooting of Lloyd in a field near Hernandez's home on June 17.

Defense attorneys for Hernandez are scheduled to be in Fall River Superior Court Thursday afternoon seeking to get bail granted for the former NFL and University of Florida player. Hernandez was held overnight in the Bristol County jail, according to CBSBoston.com.

Police also searched a home of one of Hernandez's relatives late Wednesday night, according to WFSB in Hartford. Investigators reportedly spent a few hours going through the home and garage of the home before leaving.

Hernandez was released by the New England Patriots within hours of his arrest. The Patriots will incur salary cap hits this season and a larger one next season.
