Central Fla. Wildfire Burns Out Of Control
MIMS, Fla. (CBS4) – Central Florida firefighters are still battling a large wildfire that so far has burned 16,000 acres.
More than a dozen agencies were fighting the blaze along the Brevard-Volusia county line on Wednesday.
Authorities say the smoke is not affecting motorists on Interstate 95 and U.S. 1, which remained open Wednesday morning. Both highways were shutdown for several hours late Monday night due to smoky conditions.
The blaze started Monday, jumping from Volusia County into Brevard County, about 25 miles north of the Kennedy Space Center, and across the Intercoastal Waterway from Cape Canaveral. It also closed a Brevard County elementary school Tuesday.
Officials say the fire was 25 percent contained late Tuesday.
So far, it has destroyed a mobile home and two hunting camps.
