27 Special Needs Residents Return Home After Fire Evacuation
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4)- Twenty-seven residents at a South Florida adult living facility were able to return to their homes after fire officials deemed the building safe.
According to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue spokesman Matt Little, fire crews responded to the adult living facility at 13200 SW 26th Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday. Rescue officials said when they arrived they saw heavy smoke coming from the one-story facility.
Firefighters evacuated 27 special needs residents. Rescue crews were able to successfully contain the fire to the room of origin.
The Eastbound lane of SR84 was closed during the two-alarm fire, Little said.
Little said that a portion of the building was affected and residents were able to move back in their home.
No injuries or medical issues were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
