2 Of 4 Convictions Against Casey Anthony Thrown Out
ORLANDO (CBSMiami) - A Florida appeals court has thrown out two of the four convictions of Casey Anthony for lying to detectives during the investigation of the disappearance of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee.
The judges on the 5th District Court of Appeals said two of the four counts Anthony was convicted on constituted double jeopardy, which in this case means being convicted more than once for the same crime.
The judges said the trial court was right to allow her statements to detectives to be used during her murder trial. Attorneys for Anthony had tried to argue she was in police custody at the time and hadn't been properly Mirandized.
Anthony was acquitted of killing Caylee in 2011. Jurors convicted her on four counts of lying to detectives, which her attorneys appealed, and were decided by the appellate court Friday.
