2 Dead, 22 Hurt In Tampa-Area Night Club Shooting
PALMETTO (CBSMiami) - A nightclub shooting spree in the Manatee county town of Palmetto early Saturday morning left 2 people dead, and at least 22 others were hurt in during the spray of bullets.
Police say there were two gunmen at the Club Elite shortly after midnight, when they started firing into a crowd at the front of the nightspot.
Trayon Goff, 25, of Palmetto and Gwenette Matthews, 38, of Bradenton, were both hit by gunfire and died at the scene. 6 other people were seriously injured, and 16 others were treated for minor injuries and released.
Police spokesperson Lt. Scott Tyler said at least one of the gunman appeared to have been armed with a shotgun.
Police searched for two shooters Saturday, but did not share any descriptions.
Club Elite was the scene of a fatal shooting in December where a 23-year-old man died. Police said while the club has had incidents in the past, it was not considered a problem club.
