2 Dead, 2 Hospitalized In Little Haiti Shooting
LITTLE HAITI (CBSMiami) – Police have identified the two teenage brothers who were shot and killed Monday night after gunfire broke out among a group of people who gathered in Little Haiti.
Brothers Mackenson Pierre, 17, and Yves Sylvester, 15, were killed. Two others are being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
According to police, there was a get together taking place under a carport next to a home at 150 NE 68th Terrace.
Something happened at the gathering and gun fire erupted.
Police are trying to talk to them in order to get information about the shooting.
"We're trying to speak to them and see if they can remember as to what the gunman or gunmen looked like, but most importantly, what we need right now is for other people to continue calling us to see if we can get information from other avenues," said Miami police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes.
"These boys, I don't see the reason why this happened," said Risel Pierre, a family friend.
Pierre said the teens were normal boys who played basketball in the neighborhood with friends.
"Good kids, good kids, good kids," Pierre said. "Since I've known them, they have no trouble. They go to school and they do what they're supposed to do."
Police said a number of shots were fired and there are shell casings littered all over the scene.
Neighbors told CBS4's Natalia Zea the teenage boys have caused a ruckus in the neighborhood before. They said they'd often see the teens in very high-end cars like Ferraris and Mustangs and that they would speed up and down the streets and even do spinouts in the intersection.
The shooter is still on the loose and police are investigating whether there may have been more than one gunman.
Police said the shooter is believed to be in his early 20's and hope others at the party with them will help identify the killers.
If you know anything about the shooting, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
