2 County Chase Ends In Police-Involved Shooting
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – A two county police chased ended in Broward County when a Hollywood police officer shot a suspect who allegedly tried to run over another officer.
According to Hollywood police officials, the chase started in Miami-Dade County. When the pursuit crossed the county line, Hollywood PD picked up the chase.
The chase ended near Monroe Street and 24th Avenue because the road came to a dead end.
At that point, police say, the suspect vehicle backed up and hit a Hollywood officer's patrol car. When a second officer saw the suspect, identified as Derrick Harvey, charging at the patrol car a second time, he opened fire on Harvey.
Harvey was taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. Neither officer was hurt.
An unidentified woman in Harvey's car is cooperating with police, according to Hollywood PD.
Hollywood Police said both their agency and Miami-Dade have several previous charges against the suspect.
