$2.7M Of Cocaine Seized From Suitcases At MIA
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Nearly $3 million in cocaine was seized by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Miami International Airport Thursday.
The 231 pounds of cocaine, valued at $2.7 million, was discovered in three suitcases during a random search of baggage arriving from Quito, Ecuador.
CBP officers at Miami International selected the flight for a random X-ray inspection. During the examination, anomalies were in three suitcases. A physical inspection of the suitcases resulted in the discovery of 90 brick-shaped objects, containing a white-powdery substance, which later field tested positive for cocaine.
"This seizure of cocaine was the direct result of the hard work and dedication of CBP officers who protect the community by detecting and preventing the introduction of narcotics and illicit contraband into the United States," said Roland Suliveras, CBP port director at Miami International Airport.
The incident is currently under investigation and no arrests were made at the time of discovery.
