Eyeglass Shoplifter Caught On Video Surrenders
CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – A South Florida woman has surrendered to police in Coral Springs after she was caught on surveillance video shoplifting expensive eyeglasses and stuffing them down her pants.
According to Coral Springs police, 21-year-old Jennefer Moreno turned herself into police Tuesday afternoon, accompanied by her lawyer, Gary Cole.
The police arrest form states Moreno stole more than $1,700 worth of designer frames Eagle Eyecare in the 1300 block of Coral Ridge Drive on Nov. 21st.
According to the report, Moreno started a conversation with the owner about eyeglasses and insurance. When the owner turned away to conduct other store business, Moreno could be seen on the video stuffing five frames into the waistband of her pants which she covered with her sweater.
Store owner Dr. Michael Silverman said she got away with 3 Jimmy Choo sunglasses, one Gucci sunglass frame and one Gucci eyeglass frame.
"Of course it's very upsetting when you look at the video and realize you've been tricked," said Silverman. "She was very good."
After the surveillance video aired on a local television station, police received nearly a dozen calls to Crime Stoppers from people who identified the suspect.
"From last night to this morning we received more than 40 tips and out of 40, 30 of them identified her as Jennifer Moreno," said Lt. Joe McHugh.
Not long after, police got a call from her attorney advising police that she would turn herself in and return the eyeglasses.
Moreno is charged with one count of Grand Theft. Court records show Moreno was arrested in 2010 for petty theft.
