15th Anniversary Of International Space Station
CAPE CANAVERAL (CBSMiami/AP) — To mark the 15th anniversary of the International Space Station, some of the astronauts who helped hook up the first two pieces are returning to Florida for the occasion.
Mission commander Bob Cabana will be joined by mission specialists Jerry Ross and Nancy Currie Tuesday at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Cabana currently is the director of the Kennedy Space Center.
In 1998, the six crew members of the shuttle Endeavour were the first people to enter the international space station. They transported the American connecting node Unity and hooked it up with the Russian module Zarya. They also powered up the station.
The anniversary celebration will feature a question-and-answer panel with the astronauts, as well as a lunch.
