Blue Ribbon Honors For A Charter School In Doral
DORAL (CBS4) -- Students, faculty and support staff at a charter school in Doral are feeling very proud after the school received the extremely prestigious Blue Ribbon Award.
Renaissance Elementary Charter School, located at 8360 NW 33 Street, is the only school in Miami-Dade County, public or private, to receive this honor, considered to be the highest honor that an American school can achieve.
In Broward County, The Charter School of Excellence in Fort Lauderdale also received the award.
Across the country, only 320 schools were named as 2008 No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools. The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools award distinguishes and honors schools for helping students achieve at very high levels and for making significant progress in closing the achievement gap.
The program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels.
For the past 26 years, the program has honored more than 5,800 of America's most successful schools.
This year's winners will be honored at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on October 20-21. Each school will receive a plaque and flag signifying their status and they'll also serve as models for other schools throughout the nation.
