Disney & Universal Hike Prices For Locals
ORLANDO (CBS4) - Walt Disney World is offering a familiar promotion for Florida residents. A special 4-day pass at a discounted rate, problem is, the discounted price is actually 20-percent higher this year than it was last year.
Disney is selling "4 Day Wild 4 Disney" passes for $119 plus tax for one adult. Last year, the pass, called "4 Day Dream Pass", cost $99.
The passes are good for four days of single-park admission between Jan. 2 and May 22 (with blackout dates during the always-busy week before Easter, which this year falls on April 24).
Universal Studios in Orlando has also raised prices on its annual Florida resident passes and added blackout dates. These yearly passes allow holders to receive 365 days of unlimited park-to-park admission to both Universal Studios Florida and Universal's Islands of Adventure. However, Florida residents can expect to pay $20 – $60 more per annual pass in 2011.
One pass, called "The Power Pass" was $140 in 2010, but is now $160 in 2011. The Power Pass does not include parking and expands blackout dates, including many dates during the busy summer season at the Islands of Adventure Theme Park, home to the hugely popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
The second pass, called "The Preferred Pass" has not changed. It remains at $220 and includes free parking and no blackout dates.
The third pass, called "The Premier Pass", which also includes parking and features no blackout dates, has gone up $60; from $290 to $350. It includes many benefits including a ticket to Halloween Horror Nights, free valet parking, free bottles of water, discounts on food and merchandise and on-site hotel discounts.
