1 Shot, 2 On The Run, After Chase & Police Involved Shooting
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The Miami-Dade Police Department is investigating a police involved shooting that left one person hospitalized and two suspects on the run.
According to police, it all started around 5:00 a.m. when there was an armed carjacking in Brownsville at NW 46th Street and 22nd Avenue which involved a black Honda.
A "Be On The Lookout" was issued and about 15 minutes later, an officer spotted the stolen Honda with three men inside.
There was a pursuit to NW 79th Street & 6th Court where one officer shot one of the men.
The man, in his early 20s, remained on the scene, and was later transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. The other two men continued to drive in the stolen car. They pulled into an apartment complex at NW 77th Street and 6th Court and took off running. Both men got away.
Police said no officers were hurt but two suspects remain at large.
CBS4's Natalia Zea spoke to a gas station attendant who works near the scene and he said he heard at least 20 gunshots fired.
The police involved shooting closed all east and westbound lanes at 79th Street and 6th Court from NW 7th Avenue to 5th Avenue early Thursday morning and into the afternoon.
Bullet casings were visible at the scene which also closed the 79th Street entrance to I-95.
The scene is still active and those roads remain closed.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
I-95 southbound traffic may exit at N.W. 81 Street, but is being rerouted westbound on N.W. 81 Street.
I-95 northbound traffic may exit on N.W. 79 Street, but is being rerouted eastbound on N.W. 79 Street & northbound on N.W. 6 Avenue.
