MIAMI - Nicole roared ashore early Thursday morning along the state's east coast.
The storm came ashore as a hurricane around 3 a.m. just south of Vero Beach with 75 mph winds.
It has since become a tropical storm and it will continue to weaken as it moves over land during the next day or two.

Hurricane Nicole made landfall early Thursday along the east coast of Florida just south of Vero Beach before it was downgraded to a tropical storm as it raked across the central part of the state, the National Hurricane Center said.
