SoCal residents on alert as thousand face power shutoffs due to wildfire risks

Thousands of Southern California residents are facing power shutoffs as high winds and dry conditions bring increased wildfire risks. Utilities shut off electricity to customers' homes to lessen those risks, a measure that's taken for safety reasons, but unfortunately, can be an unwanted inconvenience for those affected.
