No one won Wednesday night's top prize of $1.2 billion, so the jackpot for Saturday night's drawing will be very close to the $1.586 billion world record for lotteries.
The $1.2 billion Powerball jackpot is the second-largest in Powerball history. Jasmine Viel reports.
After no winning tickets have been sold over the last 37 drawings, the Powerball jackpot has continued to climb, now eclipsing $1 billion, making it the second-largest jackpot in Powerball history. Michele Gile reports.
The drawing was the 37th since the last time a ticket with all six numbers was sold.
No one won Wednesday's pot of gold of about $700 million, which was already the game's largest this year.
On Wednesday night, lottery officials announced that the winning tickets of the coveted $630 million Powerball jackpot were sold in California and Wisconsin. The winning ticket in California was purchased at a Sacramento 7-Eleven.
The Powerball numbers drawn Wednesday are 3, 6, 26, 35, 51, and the Powerball number was 17. No tickets were sold that matched all six numbers, so the estimated jackpot rolls over to $116 million for Saturday's drawing.
The winner will have the choice between receiving the $699.8 million jackpot in 30 graduated payments over 29 years, or a lump sum payment of $496 million.
A customer that purchased a lottery ticket Wednesday at the General Store in Compton won $2.5 million, matching all the number with the exception of the Powerball.
The jackpot winner will have the choice between receiving the $731.1 million over 29 years, or a lump sum payment of $546.8 million.

No one matched all six numbers Tuesday night. The Mega Millions jackpot is expected to hit $750 million by Friday.
The new year already has mixed reviews, but there's a chance to turn it all around this week.
The winning numbers are 16, 20, 37, 44 and 62. The Powerball is 12.
Wednesday's draw will be worth at least $750 million.
There was no Powerball winner Saturday, making Wednesday night's estimated jackpot swell to an estimated $550 million, the eighth largest jackpot in the game's history.
Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is potentially the eighth largest in history, but the odds of winning are long – about 1 in 293 million to win the jackpot. About 1 in $25 can win a $5 prize or more.
The winning numbers were 30-34-39-53-67, and the Powerball: 11.
Wednesday's numbers were 18, 36, 45, 47, 69 and the Powerball number was 14. The jackpot was $448.2 million, and is expected to reach $495 million for Saturday's drawing.
No one has won the latest mammoth Powerball prize, so the estimated jackpot now grows to $750 million – the fourth-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history.
So, at this writing, there is (give or take a few million) about $2.2 billion up for grabs this coming week.
The jackpot is $378 million, coming up from $345 million earlier Wednesday.
The Mega Millions jackpot has soared to a whopping $868 million for Friday night's drawing.
The ticket matching five of the six Powerball numbers was sold at Ed's Liquor, 825 Pico Blvd. Sunday night's winning numbers were 22, 57, 59, 60, 66, and the Powerball number was 7.
