In his early law-making career, Strom Thurmond, as a Senator from South Carolina, made no apologies for his racial politics, stance against civil rights laws and belief in keeping the races separate. To put it bluntly, after Thurmond died in 2003, it became abundantly clear he didn't practice what he preached. When he was a young man of 22, he hooked up with his family's black maid, Carrie "Tunch" Butler who was then 16. The two had a child together. Louisiana State's head coach Pokey Chatman resigned May 9, 2007 when it was revealed that she was having an on-going sexual relationship with a former player. What got the school especially riled up, was that the relationship started when the unidentified player was playing under Chatman. Hmmm, in hindsight, that might be an unfortunate way of describing the affair. Chatman was considered one of the best female basketball coaches, ever, and won several Coach of the Year awards. Formula One boss Max Mosley was involved in a sex scandal in March 2008 when it was reported that he was seen, caught on tape, engaging in sex acts with five, count 'em five, prostitutes. That wasn't the part that had people calling for his resignation. Mosley was shown in the video doing what has been described as Nazi role playing. [Obviously, Mosley outgrew a simple doctor/nurse fantasy.] The Federation Internationale de Automobile (FIA), the Formula One governing body, is expected to vote June 2008 as to whether Mosley should keep his job or not. Soccer great Ronaldo, 31, so great he only needs one name, stepped in it big time when he decided to go on a wild romp with some hookers at a Rio de Janeiro motel. The scandal got more juicy when Ronaldo claimed one of the ladies, uh, hookers tried to extort money from him to keep the scandal quiet. No suck luck. Ronaldo said he had "no idea" the dudes were not ladies until they started to disrobe. The New York Daily News reported in April 2008 that Roger Clemens' had a ten-year-long extra-marital affair with country singer Mindy McCready. If that wasn't scandalous enough, the paper reported that the affair started when McCready was only 15. Clemens denied the report and said through a lawyer that he and McCready were "just friends." Vito Fossella
Rep. Vito Fossella, 43, the only Republican congressman from New York City, got into hot water May 2008 when he was arrested on DWI charges while driving in a suburb of Washington, D.C. His blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. At the time of his arrest, his constituents were further shocked that the married father of three admitted that he fathered a child, now 3, during an extra-marital affair. Mark Everson, former head of the IRS, was running the Red Cross when he was forced to resign November 2007. The Board of Directors discovered Everson -- a married father of two -- was providing comfort and aid to a subordinate female employee. Isn't that what the Red Cross is supposed to do? Provide comfort and aid? Well, yes, but not in this case. Translation: he was carrying on an extra-marital affair and the Board didn't like it. Or the publicity. Radio executive Tom Athans, who is married to US Senator Debbie Stabenow (D- Mich.) was seen leaving a Residence Inn hotel (address Interstate 75 and Big Beaver) in February 2008 and admitted to police he was soliciting a prostitute he met on line on Craigslist. Athans, co-founder and former CEO of the liberal Democracy Radio, said he paid a 20-year-old hooker $150 to perform a sex act. The room was being watched by undercover cops and Athans left 15 minutes after arriving. Stabenow said she wanted to thank her constituents for "their prayers and support." For his part, Athans said in a statement, "My family and I are dealing with this matter in a personal and private way." (credit: CBS)

Popular sportscaster Marv Albert coined the phrase "Yes!" while doing play-by-play on the basketball court. Because Albert did not take the word "No!" for an answer off the court he got in legal hot water. He went on trial for forcible sodomy and for reportedly biting a sex partner more than 15 times on her back. Wild revelations about Albert quickly emerged including threesomes, forced oral sex, and his wearing women's clothes during sex caused NBC to fire him. Atlanta Falcons free safety Eugene Robinson was arrested in 1999 on the eve of the Super Bowl for soliciting a prostitute. Several players had reportedly visited a seedy section of Miami prior to his arrest for the same purpose but they didn't get caught. Robinson allegedly propositioned an undercover vice cop and offered her $40 to perform oral sex. Robinson insisted he was innocent but apologized to his friends and family for not maintaining "the high standards I've set for myself." Prior to his arrest, Robinson had been awarded the Bart Starr award, given to the player who exemplifies moral leadership on the field and off. Robinson said he would return the award.
Bob Packwood
Senator Robert William "Bob" Packwood hailed from Oregon and was a moderate Republican who often got into scrapes with pro-life groups, the pro-gun lobby and even his own party (namely when he refused to confirm Robert Bork or Clarence Thomas for the Supreme Court.) He was first elected to the Senate in 1968 and rose to chair several powerful committees. But in 1992, rumors about Packwood sexually harassing, abusing and assaulting women began to surface. At least 29 women came forward and filed complaints. The Senate demanded he turn over diaries he had written and he submitted about 5000 pages. When it was revealed that he heavily edited the diary (leaving out another 3000-something pages) even his Senate friends were convinced he should go. By 1995 there was a call for public hearings about his behavior and Packwood resigned rather than face being kicked out. (credit: AP)
Larry Langford
Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford was in hot water in 2008 for a charity he set up in 2000 which was being accused of possible mismanagement of funds, many of which supposedly found their way into the pockets of former gay porn star Ryan Idol, born Mark Anthony Donais. The charity, set up to provide computers for school kids, according to the Associated Press, was managed by a Langford friend named John Katopodis. Court documents said $30,000 earmarked for the charity was given to Idol for fixing computers, something he was not trained to do. (credit: CBS)

A month after endorsing his presidential bid, the New York Times suggested John McCain, left, and Vicki Iseman, a lobbyist, had an affair. Ms. Iseman and McCain both have denied anything improper. The newspaper of record also said many McCain aides believed there was a relationship and, at the very least, tried to suggest to McCain that since she was a lobbyist the idea he was showing her clients special favortism could appear inappropriate to the public. Thomas Jefferson served as president of the United States from 1801-1809. He said that "all men are created equal." Well, so much for the women. Thomas like many others who traveled in the worlds of politics and hypocrisy allegedly had a female mistress, Sally Hemmings, who was, incidentally, a slave. Back in the day, pretty much all of Washington was abuzz with rumors of their alleged relationship but nothing could be proven till hundreds of years later when the Jefferson family and the Hemming's families subjected themselves to a DNA test. "Star Trek: Voyager" actress Jeri Ryan divorced Illinois Republican Jack Ryan -- who was then running for the U.S. Senate in 2004 -- alleging that he boldly wanted to go to swinger's clubs in Paris, New York and New Orleans. Ryan -- who said he was faithful during his entire marriage -- only said they took the trips for "romantic getaways". In 2003, Kentucky Governor Paul Patton's administration was rocked by scandal when he acknowledged having an extra-marital affair with Tina Conner, a local businesswoman. Patton's popularity plummeted almost overnight. The Democrat whose career was on the rise, was head of the National Governor's Association and vowed not to resign. Anti-gay lawmaker Richard Curtis was considered one of the State of Washington's most conservative members. He resigned his seat October 2007 after a male prostitute came forward with allegations that Curtis had sex with him in a hotel after they met at a XXX video store in Spokane. Curtis, married father of three, first said he was "not gay" and that the prostitute was trying to extort him. Swedish actress/beauty Ingrid Bergman who starred in "Spellbound," "Notorious" and "Casablanca", fell in love with director Roberto Rossellini and had a child with him while being married to another man, Dr. Peter Lindstrom. The scandal rocked Hollywood and Bergman's career. The bashing got so bad (including being denounced on the Senate floor for all the things wrong with America), Bergman left the U.S. for seven years. Maybe Brad really did want out of his marriage to Jenn before he met Angelina. That wasn't Hollywood's first "oh-no-she-didn't" love triangle. Not even the one that got the most ink. Debbie Reynolds was America's sweetheart and her marriage in 1955 to crooner Eddie Fisher dubbed them "the perfect couple" in Hollywood. Eddie, Debbie and Liz Taylor were all so close in 1959...and Debbie would soon find out Eddie and Liz were a little too close. Liz's husband, showman Mike Todd, was killed in a plane crash, and Todd had also been Eddie's best friend. Eddie spent a lot of time consoling Liz. You know what happened next. In 1992, Mia Farrow, his then-girlfriend, found nude Polaroids of another woman on Woody Allen's mantelpiece. She was shocked and hurt but even more so when she realized the photos were of her adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn, a then 21-year-old girl Allen had helped Farrow raise. Much of Hollywood was shocked and horrified by the scandal. Allen, who turns 72 on Dec 1, has mostly remained mum about his marriage to Soon-Yi (35 years his junior) but he told Vanity Fair in 2005 that their relationship "works like magic." (credit: AP)

Mississippi Senator Trent Lott announced his retirement from the Senate rather suddenly raising conjecture about the real reason he is stepping down. Several liberal blogs (including politico.com, popcrunch.com and the clevelandleader.com,) Tuesday suggest (well more than suggest) that Sen. Lott is about to face down a sex scandal involving a gay prostitute. The vocally anti-gay senator would surely raise eyebrows if he were involved with a man. Comic genius Eddie Murphy said he was merely being a good Samaritan in 1997 when he picked up a transvestite hooker in his car. He thought the hooker needed a ride (she was crying) but the dude -- Atisone Kenneth Seiuli -- was no dreamgirl. The hooker insisted Murphy was trying for a hook-up. Heather did not expect Denise, her former bff, to also share in an exchange of bodily fluids with Sambora. Pastor Ted Haggard, who often preached anti-gay sermons, was defrocked and forced to resign his post as head of the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado -- a church he founded. Mike Jones, a former escort, said Haggard paid him for sex -- often -- and that the two also used meth on several occasions. Haggard first denied even knowing Jones but later acknowledged that, yes, he did do drugs and was involved with "sexual immorality." Post-scandal, Haggard told his congregation and church elders that he would seek counseling (he went three weeks) and was now completely "heterosexual." (credit: CBS)

Spokane Mayor Jim West, who ran on an anti-gay agenda and one of the country's most virulent and consistent anti-gay bill makers, was one of the most conservative Republicans in the Washington legislature. You know where this is going, no? West, it turns out, was forced out of office in scandal in 2005 when it was revealed he tried to use his office to entice a young adult man he thought was 18. (It was actually a computer expert working for a newspaper). West was also accused of molesting two boys when they were Boy Scouts, a claim he denied...West did acknowledge having several on-line relationships with men he met on gay.com. It was a tender Sen. David Vitter who apologized to the media and his wife for "a very serious sin in my past". He made that statement after it was revealed that, when he was unmarried, the Louisiana Republican used the services of at least one (some say more) escorts on the payroll of the so-called "D.C. Justice (who also played for the NY Yankees, Cleveland Indians and Oakland A's) always maintained the couple was already separated and his arrest had nothing to do with the couple's divorce. Berry moved on to musician Eric Benet and claimed he was a sex addict and womanizer, a charge Benet later denied on "Primetime" saying "I am not a sex addict...I am a person who ...has made some really, really stupid, painful mistakes." Vanessa Williams, the gorgeous former Miss America, was stripped of her crown when Penthouse revealed some pre-stardom photos of the lovely actress-singer in the nude. It wasn't really the nude shots that got Williams in hot water: it was the photos of Williams posed with another woman in suggestive and sexually active poses (she thought they were just artistic) that raised eyebrows. So much for a scandal ruining a career -- getting the crown ripped off her pretty head might have been the best thing that happened to her career. Can you name another Miss America? Didn't think so. America felt sorry for the talented Williams and gave her a second chance...making her a recording artist, Broadway star and celebrated TV actress ("Ugly Betty.")

Senator Larry Craig wasn't the first politician to be caught with his pants down in the bathroom. Lyndon Johnson's chief of staff, Walter Jenkins, was arrested in October 1964 engaging in sexual activity with a Hungarian man in a YMCA bathroom. Jenkins was forced to resign. Republican congressman Jon Hinson, from Mississippi, was arrested for committing a lewd act (exposing himself) at the Arlington National Cemetery in 1976. He blamed alcohol on his "homosexual tendencies" but denied he was gay. In 1981, he was charged with attempted oral sodomy with a male employee in the House of Representatives bathroom. After leaving office, he did a 180 and became a gay rights activist. He died in 1995 from complications due to AIDS. Staunch conservative and anti-gay Republican congressman Robert Bauman was charged with attempting to solicit sex with a 16-year-old male prostitute he paid $50. Bauman -- a married father of four -- blamed "acute alcoholism" for the incident. Gerry Studds, America's first openly gay elected official, a congressional Democrat from Massachusetts, was censured by fellow house members after Studds said he had had an affair with a 17-year-old page. Wearing a Red Sox cap when you come from NYC is the least of the scandals that have hit one-time Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani. He's been married three times...the first time to his first cousin (hey, it worked for the Roosevelts), the second wife...not a big fan. Actress Donna Hanover was watching TV when she saw her then-husband announce he was seeking a separation...which was news to Hanover. Hanover, feeling pretty scorned, lashed out and accused Rudy of numerous adulteries, the latest with a woman who is now his third wife. His third wife told the press she had been married once before...but, wait, not so fast...she was really married twice before, embroiling the former Mayor in yet another headline-grabbing story. Larry Craig insists he is "not gay", but he was arrested in the summer of 2007 in a public bathroom where an undercover officer was conducting a sting of gay males soliciting sex. In December, an Idaho newspaper reported that eight men claimed to have sexual encounters with the senator -- or say he came on to them. One of the men, a former male escort, says Craig paid him $200 for sex. Conservative Matt Sanchez -- who is also an evangelical Christian -- was embraced by TV pundits (Bill O'Reilly and Ann Coulter particularly fawned over him) as an outstanding Marine and outspoken advocate for the Iraq war. In March 2007 Sanchez, accepted the "academic freedom award" from a right-wing group. Liberal bloggers thought Sanchez looked a bit familiar and outed him as a gay porn star and male escort. Through the 90s, Sanchez, who went by the name of Rod Majors (subtle, no?) appeared in 30-something gay titles like "Jawbreaker", "Idol Country" and "Lunch Hour 2: Sweating Grease" and advertised as a sex-for-sale massage therapist in NY gay publications until recently. Kwame Kilpatrick
Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick went on TV in January 2008, with his wife at his side, to discuss charges of whether he lied to a prosecutor about whether or not he and an aide, former chief of staff Christine Beatty, had had an affair, which they both originally denied in a court of law. Fourteen thousand text messages between the two (she: "did you miss me, sexually?" he "Hell yeah, I want some more!") were sometimes steamy and released to the public. Kilpatrick said he would fight to keep his job despite calls for his resignation. Kilpatrick said he was "sorry" and apologized to his supporters and the people of Detroit for his "profoundly embarrassing" behavior. His wife said "my husband and I will get through this. I am angry and I am hurt and disappointed but there is no question I love my husband." On September 4, 2008, Kilpatrick accepted a plea deal: he will go to jail for 4 months and pay a $1 million fine. He'll also be on probation for five years. New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, 48, came into office in 2006 with a dogged reputation of fighting crime and vowing to clean up New York from corruption. So it was a bit of a shock, to say the least, when the New York Times website reported on March 10, 2008 that Spitzer, New York's former attorney general, was linked as a high-profile client to the escort ring Emperors Club VIP, a web-based service that featured high-class call girls who charged as much as $5,500 an hour. Big Brother's Crazy James
"Big Brother" contestant "Crazy James" joined the cast of BB9 saying he liked older women. What he didn't mention was that his repertoire also apparently includes men. Several videos of James in various states of undress -- and in solo action -- found their way onto the net within days of BB9's premiere. Days later, more hardcore fare showed up with James, uh, being active sexually with a male partner. Very hardcore. Very active. Less than a full day after being sworn in as the new governor of New York, David Paterson told the New York Daily News that he and his wife both had extramarital affairs during a rough patch in their marriage. Paterson insisted during his weekly Friday trysts (including rooms at the Days Inn and food at TGIF's...hey big spender!) he always used his own money and not the taxpayers. However, on March 20, 2008 he admitted that at least one of the trysts might have accidentally been charged to his campaign as "constituent services." John and Elizabeth Edwards seemed like the perfect couple. Of course, in politics reality is rarely what it seems. Edwards shocked the country, much of his staff and the media on August 8, 2008 when he admitted to an affair the tabloids were long rumor-mongering on. Edwards said he had had an extramarital affair with a woman, Rielle Hunter, who was once hired by his staff to do promotional videos about the Senator. Edwards, however, vehemently denied that he fathered a child out of wedlock with the 42-year-old Hunter. That is until almost a year to the day when he acknowledged the affair, a report from CBS affiliate WRAL on August 12, 2009 said Edwards was ready to admit the child, a girl named Frances, was his progeny. In October 2008, congressman Tim Mahoney, a Democrat in Florida, was implicated in a sex scandal after it was learned he paid off a woman he had had an affair with. Turns out, there was another woman. Mahoney admitted to "at least" two affairs but said he broke no laws and that he wouldn't resign his seat. Ironically, Mahoney admitted that one of the affairs began as he was running a "family values" campaign. Ha! Oh, and for more irony: Mahoney was running for the seat left vacant by Mark Foley, the Republican who resigned after the scandal broke that purported he was sending inappropriate and sexually-charged IMs and E mails to male pages. David Duchovny and Tea Leoni's marriage hit a rocky patch in 2008 when it was revealed the couple was separating. Reportedly, the star of Showtime's "Californication" (about a sex-obsessed writer) was in rehab for sexual addiction. In a statement, the former "X-Files" heart throb asked for "respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family." Openly gay Portland Oregon Mayor Sam Adams refused to resign his post in Janaury 2009 after admitting he lied about a sexual relationship with an underage male. Adams publicly apologized for lying about a sexual relationship with legislative intern Beau Breedlove who was 17 when he and the mayor met in 2005. Both men insist there was no sexual activity until Breedlove turned 18 but Breedlove said they kissed "twice" when he was a year younger. Adams also apologized for coaching Breedlove on how to lie about their affair when he was first approached by reporters. (credit: AP)

Alex Rodriguez, superstar third baseman for the New York Yankees, was already involved in a messy divorce when his now ex-wife accused the slugger of making time with the Material Girl. No stranger to sex scandals herself (remember the book "Sex"), Madonna and A-Rod denied they were anything more than friends. They did happen to run into each other an inordinate amount for people who just happened to be casual acquaintances. In March 2009, the New York Daily News threw more caution to the wind and reported that madam Kristin Davis -- who reportedly supplied one-time NY Governor Elliot Spitzer with prostitutes -- also supplied call girls -- at least a half dozen times to A-Rod! With one arrest, Vince Shlomi went from being the pitchman for ShamWow to being a guy known for ShamOwww! Police in Miami Beach say Shlomi took a hooker back to his hotel room in March 2009 -- a comely woman named Sasha Harris -- and gave her $900+ for fun and frivolity. For some reason, she bit Shlomi's tongue and refused to let go. Hence the shamOWW! He got mad and reportedly struck her several times. The fight escalated and both got arrested for aggravated assault. Police say neither will be charged. While Shlomi got off (sorry!) relatively lightly he will be the butt of jokes on late night TV and the Internet for several months to come, no doubt.
Father Alberto Cutie
Father Alberto Cutie (his name is pronounced Coo-tay, but let's face it, he is rather a cutie) caused a scandal in May 2009 when photos of the popular Miami priest and TV personality were published in a Spanish-language magazine. The photos showed the priest cavorting with a woman on a beach...lots of kissing, fondling and other un-church-like actitivies. After the photos ran, Cutie confessed he was in love with the woman. He is now grappling with whether or not to leave the priesthood. He has already quit as head of the Catholic Church in Miami as well as president of Radio Paz and Radio Peace, two stations run by the diocese. The handsome priest was dubbed by Newsweek "Father Oprah" because of his worldly broadcast appeal. Cutie married his cutie girlfriend June 2009. (credit: CBS)

Chip Pickering, who was a Republican congressman from Mississippi for 12 years, retired in Jan. 2009. His wife, Leisha Pickering, sued her husband's alleged mistress -- Elizabeth Creekmore Byrd -- for alienation of affection. The ex-Mrs. Pickering blamed Byrd for ruining her marriage and for destroying her husband's political career. The former congressman went on to be a lobbyist for Celluar South...which is, incidentally?...a telecommunications company owned by Creekmore Byrd's family. (credit: AP)

Nevada Sen. John Ensign was considered a rising star of the Republican party in June 2009, when it was revealed he had had an extramarital affair with a woman who worked on his campaign staff. The woman is also married to one of Ensign's former aides. Awkward! Reading from a prepared statement, Ensign said "I deeply regret and am very sorry for my actions." In a statement, Ensign's wife said the affair actually made them "stronger." Ensign, like Governor Mark Sanford, was an outspoken opponent of Bill Clinton's and called for the President to resign when his sexual scandal came to light. Ensign also called for fellow Senator Larry Craig to step down after he was arrested in an undercover sting. Ensign says he is committed to staying in the Senate. Republican South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford turned down the government's stimulus money, and to hear the late night comics tell it, he was getting his stimulus someplace else. Sanford went missing for 5 days in June 2009 -- his staff didn't know where he was. On father's day weekend, no less, the married father of four was actually in Argentina reportedly breaking up with a woman he had been having an affair, for a year, with. Sanford, of course, was one of Bill Clinton's leading critics during the Lewinsky affair. And Sanford is also a proponent of the Defense of Marriage Act and outspoken against same-sex marriage. Sanford also said one of his trips to Argentina was paid for with tax payer funds and he promises to pay it back. Wife Jenny wrote a best-selling book and divorced Sanford. Famed Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino reportedly told police that he was drinking at a Louisville restaurant in August 2003 when he had sex with Karen Sypher. She alleged in 2009 that Pitino had raped her at the restaurant and at another location. The Courier-Journal reported on their website in August 2009 that Pitino denied there had been a rape and that he also gave Sypher $3,000 for an abortion. McSteamy indeed! Grey's Anatomy's "Dr. McSteamy" Eric Dane, his wife, actress Rebecca Gayheart, and Kari Ann Peniche turned up together in a naughty online video posted by Gawker.com on Aug. 16, 2009. The tape reportedly was in Peniche's possession. Various reports claimed the tape was stolen from her while Peniche appeared with room mate Mindy McReady on Dr. Drew's "Celebrity Rehab." TMZ quoted Marty Singer, lawyer for both Dane and Gayheart said they would sue anyone who published what is "a private, confidential tape." Roman Polanski
Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski fled California in 1978 after he entered a plea bargain for unlawfully drugging and having sex with a 13-year-old girl. (He maintained he panicked when he believed the judge was going to renege on the agreement.) Polanski, who was 44 at the time of the crime, is expected to be extradited from Switzerland to face justice in California for having sex with Samantha Gailey (now Geimer.) For her part, Geimer, who reportedly got a financial settlement from Polanski said she wished the entire ordeal could be "put to rest for both of us." She added, "I don't think he needs to be locked up forever. It's an unpleasant memory. (But) I can live with it." (credit: CBS)

KCAL 9 reporter Dave Lopez reported exclusively September 2009 about recorded audio tapes allegedly showing a conservative Republican O.C. Assemblyman, namely Michael Duvall, openly talking about at least two affairs on a hot open mic. Duvall was unknowingly recorded during a committee meeting in Sacramento. The sex reportedly occured with female lobbyists in the State Capitol. Lopez also reported that "much of the taped onversation (is too graphic) for television." Duvall, ironically, gets high marks -- 100% in fact -- from Capitol Resource Institute, for his "protection of strong family values." Lopez says Duvall turned down repeated requests for interviews. Duvall resigned his position the day after the scandal broke. The following day he wrote on his web site that he denied having sex but did admit to "engaging in inappropriate strorytelling." David Letterman reveals to his late night audience his affairs with several staffers on his show and the extortion plot against him in Manhattan on October 1, 2009. Robert Joel Halderman (known as Joe), a producer at "48 Hours" was accused of trying to extort $2 million from Letterman. ESPN baseball analyst Steve Phillips acknowledged having an affair with Brooke Hundley, an assistant at the cable network in October 2009, and has taken a leave of absence during the playoffs. The New York Post reported that after Phillips dumped Hundley she sent a letter to his wife detailing the most intimate aspects of their affair and the newspaper compared some of Hundley's post affair behavior with that of Glenn Close's character in "Fatal Attraction." Several days after the news of the affair broke, ESPN announced both Phillips and Hundley were both fired. Meanwhile, Phillips acknowledged he was entering a clinic to deal with sex addiction. In a statement on his Web site on Dec. 2, 2009, Tiger Woods apologized to his family, friends and fans for "sins" and "transgressions." The apology came after a car crash in his front yard brought the glare of the media spotlight on the golf superstar's personal life. An apparent voice mail message from Woods to a woman who claimed they had had a 31-month affair was released earlier that day. Later, more than a dozen women stepped forward and claimed dalliances with the golf legend. Wife Elin filed for divorced and the couple was officially kaput August 2010. Eric Massa, Democrat Representative of New York, resigned in March 2010 with, in his words, "a profound sense of failure." It was revealed that Massa was stepping down rather than face an ethics investigation involving a harassment complaint from a male staffer. During an exchange with sexual overtones, Massa said he used language that left no doubt that he was making his subordinate "uncomfortable." First citing his battles with cancer for the cause of his sudden resignation, Massa later revealed he didn't want to put his family (he is married) through the rigors, and embarassment, of an ethics probe. Calif. State Senator Roy Ashburn was arrested for a DUI in March 2010. He was pulled over with a male companion in his car. This would normally not be that newsworthy, but Ashburn is a conservative Republican who ran on a family values, anti-gay platform...and when he was pulled over, he and the companion had reportedly just left a gay nightclub called Faces. Ashburn has voted against gay issues at every opportunity. Leading gay activists called Ashburn, the married father of four, "a hypocrite." About a week after his arrest, he came out. (credit: Sac. Sandra Bullock & Jesse James
By all accounts, actress Sandra Bullock and her husband Jesse James were madly in love ... she said as much accepting her Golden Globe and Oscar for her work in the film "The Blind Side." But it was Bullock who was, apparently, blind-sided by magazine reports that her husband was cheating on her, for 11 months, with a tattoo model. Bullock canceled all personal appearances after the scandal broke (two weeks after the Oscars, no less) and James apologized to PEOPLE Magazine for his "bad judgment" and said he deserved "everything bad that is coming my way." Glenn Richardson
Glenn Richardson was a popular family-values Republican from Georgia and speaker of that state's state house. There was talk he could be Governor someday. He stepped down in December 2009 when his wife accused him of having an affair with a lobbyist. And at the same time he acknowleged a suicide try. His successor, Rep. Daniel Stout also admitted to having an affair. And, he too, is a family values advocate. Well, at least these days he is. Ten years ago, it was reported Stout had an affair...with his first wife's mother! Is he ready for "Jerry Springer" or what?? It gets better (or worse, depending upon your perspective.) To add another twist, his then wife was pregnant with their daughter! He told reporters that that "humbling experience changed my life dramatically."
