Young Man Killed By Dana Point Metrolink Train In Apparent Suicide
DANA POINT (CBS) — A young man was killed Monday when he stepped in front of a Metrolink train in Dana Point, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Witnesses say the unidentified man stood on the tracks at Palisades Drive and Coast Highway as a commuter train approached around 12:15 p.m.
He reportedly stepped away as the engineer honked, then jumped back into the train's path when it got closer, said Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino.
"We're investigating it as a probable suicide," Amormino said.
The train struck the man between the San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente stations, said Sherita Coffelt, a Metrolink spokeswoman.
The track was shut down for about four hours. Metrolink and Amtrak used buses to get affected commuters around the area.
