Young Father Gunned Down In San Bernardino Drive-By Shooting
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — A father of a young child was fatally shot Monday morning in a drive-by in San Bernardino, authorities said.
The shooting unfolded about 8 a.m. in the driveway of an apartment complex near Eighth Street and Arrowhead Avenue. Witnesses said the unidentified 21-year-old victim was standing outside and talking with someone when shots were fired.
"All you hear is a bunch of screaming. Women and children screaming. You see women coming across the street trying to get the cop's attention," Steven Figueroa, a witness, told KCAL9's Tom Wait.
"I walk outside, and I see a gentleman stop his car in the middle of the street. Run up and he goes out of sight. I hear five or six gunshots," Figueroa said. "I counted six. I could be wrong on the number exactly. But right after that he runs back out. I call 911."
Lt. Mike Madden of the San Bernardino Police Department said the suspected shooter fired multiple rounds at the victim through an open passenger's side window of a vehicle. The suspect vehicle was possibly a silver or gray Toyota Camry.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, neighbors described the victim and his girlfriend as a nice, young couple.
"He's dead. He's got a 6-month-old child," Figueroa said. "The rare time we see them, they're just walking by. They're respectful."
