Wrong-Way Crash Kills 2 Men On 110 Freeway Near Downtown
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A wrong-way crash early Thursday morning killed two men on the Harbor (110) Freeway near downtown.
A Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy tried to pull over a white 2003 Acura TL sedan around 1:15 a.m. for speeding and reckless driving, the California Highway Patrol said.
The 22-year-old male driver initially slowed down his vehicle, briefly pulled over and then made a U-turn on the southbound 110 Freeway before speeding off in the wrong direction.
The Acura slammed into a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck, driven by a 58-year-old man, just before 1:20 a.m. near the 9th Street exit, the CHP said.
Firefighters had to extricate both unidentified men, who were later pronounced dead.
It was unclear if alcohol or drugs were involved.
The crash was under investigation.
