Wreckage Cleared After Small Plane Crash In Pacoima Parking Lot
PACOIMA (CBSLA.com) — Investigators have hauled away the wreckage of a small plane that crashed in a used car lot in Pacoima over the weekend.
The Cessna single-engine 172 went down Sunday afternoon in the 10300 block of N. San Fernando Road, just across the street from Whiteman Airport, according to LAFD spokesperson Brian Humphrey.
Humphrey previously said two men managed to free themselves from the wreckage and were transported to an area hospital in fair condition with non-life threatening injuries.
KCAL9's Art Barron reports HazMat crews cleaned up about 15 gallons of spilled fuel Sunday night. The remaining fuel was drained from the plane's wing.
The aircraft was dismantled Monday and was to be hauled away to a hangar in Chino, where investigators for the National Transportation Safety Board will try to determine the cause of the crash.
Ian Gregor, a public affairs manager for the FAA, previously said the aircraft was inbound to Whiteman Airport but struck a building and crashed into the lot.
The plane is owned by Vista Aviation. The company runs a flight school, and has other similar aircraft.
The president and co-owner of the company, John Rhodes, declined an on-camera interview.
