Would-Be Abductor May Be Connected To Other Crimes
REDONDO BEACH (CBS) — Police searched Thursday for a man who attempted to abduct an 8-year-old boy and who also may be suspected of stalking and exposing himself to children in the area.
The attempted abduction took place around 3 p.m. as the boy walked home in the 2500 block of Huntington Lane, said Sgt. Phil Keenan of the Redondo Beach Police Department.
As the boy walked past the gray or silver four-door vehicle parked at the curb, the driver opened the door and "said things to the boy which made the boy feel the suspect wanted him to get in the car," Keenan said.
The boy ran from the man and reported the incident to his mother, who notified police.
The suspect was described as being in his 50s with dark short hair and a heavy build.
"Investigators are trying to determine if this suspect is related to a series of stalkings and exposures to children that occurred in Redondo Beach in November of last year," Keenan said.
"The suspect description and the vehicle description are similar in those cases."
