Workers Of East Los Angeles Clinic Suspected Of Fraud, Theft
LOS ANGELES (CBS) — Authorities say they have collared a half-dozen people on charges of grand theft, insurance fraud and practicing medicine without certification in connection with the operation of a medical clinic in East Los Angeles.
Dr. Shura Moreno was among those arrested last week from the Dr. Shura Moreno Medical Clinic at 4146 E. Olympic Blvd., according to Erick Aguilar of the Los Angeles County Health Authority Law Enforcement Task Force, known as HALT.
Moreno, 45, was arrested March 2. The arrests were made after a nearly year-long investigation.
Moreno, of Alta Loma, and Leticia Isabel Pena of Downey were booked on suspicion of multiple counts of grand theft and fraud, and practicing or aiding and abetting the practice of medicine without certification.
Rosa Isela Gonzalez of Fontana and Sylvia Rodriguez and Humberto Pena, both of East Los Angeles, were booked on suspicion of multiple counts of practicing medicine without certification.
Guadalupe Gonzalez of South Gate was booked on suspicion of prescription fraud and practicing without certification.
Two more suspects are at large.
The investigation began in April 2010, after authorities received allegations of illegal sales of pharmaceutical and unsupervised medical staff working at the clinic.
