Worker Hurt After Falling From Roof Of Disneyland's Space Mountain
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — A worker fell while cleaning the Space Mountain ride at Disneyland Wednesday, breaking a leg and several other bones.
The 37-year-old subcontractor, working for HSG Inc., was cleaning the roof in a bosun chair when it came loose shortly after 7 a.m., according to Anaheim Fire Marshal Jeff Lutz.
The employee fell 20 to 30 feet and a barrier on the roof kept the worker from falling to the ground, said Peter Melton of Cal/OSHA.
Crews used a fire engine outfitted with a cherry picker to rescue him.
The man, whose name was not released, broke his left leg and right collarbone, as well as some ribs, Melton said. He was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center.
If the worker needs more than 24 hours of hospital care then Cal/OSHA will begin an investigation into the incident, Melton said.
Cal/OSHA is still investigating an Oct. 3 accident on the Space Mountain attraction that led to the hospitalization of a 68-year-old machinist working on the ride. The machinist suffered back, chest and head injuries after being struck by one of the indoor roller coaster's cars.
Space Mountain, part of Tomorrowland, opened in 1977.
