Woman Wins $250K With 'Strike It Rich' Scratcher
SANTA FE SPRINGS (CBSLA.com) — Maria Solorio stopped by a Montebello donut shop for a maple bar and some milk. She also bought a lottery ticket.
Maple, milk, Montebello...moolah!
The "Strike It Rich!" scratcher she purchased turned out to be worth $250,000.
An hour after scratching her ticket, Solorio was in the California Lottery's Santa Fe Springs district office to claim her prize.
"I thought that would never happen to me," said Solorio.
Her plan for the money is touching -- to say the least.
"I've been throwing around the idea of opening a sober-living home," said Solorio, who works as a program director for a drug and alcohol treatment center.
As recently as last week, Solorio was gathering information on what she would need to start her own treatment facility.
"I was raised in an alcoholic home," she said. "Maybe I can help somebody else."
It's going to be a lot of work, Solorio recognized, but "it will happen."
Solorio bought her ticket at J&B Donuts in the 2300 block of West Whittier Boulevard.
