Woman Who Stabbed 4 Target Shoppers In 2010 Sentenced To State Hospital
BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — A woman who admitted stabbing four strangers inside a West Hollywood Target store in 2010 was sentenced Friday to 16 years and 8 months in a state hospital.
Layla Rosette Trawick -- who hails from Northern California -- was judged to be not guilty by reason of insanity on two counts of attempted murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
Trawick has been held at Patton State Hospital since September 2010.
She was sentenced to the maximum penalty, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Family members said Trawick has a history of mental problems. They also said she lost custody of her son.
Trawick was arrested by an off-duty sheriff's deputy and detained by store security after stabbing the four strangers inside the Target store at Santa Monica Boulevard and La Brea Avenue on May 3, 2010.
Two of her stabbing victims suffered serious injuries. Those victims recovered, according to the D.A. Two other stabbing victims were treated at the scene.
