Woman Who Led South LA Pursuit Surrenders, Search Continues For Male Passenger
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A woman suspected of stealing a car and leading deputies on a chase through South Los Angeles has surrendered, but the search continues for the man she dropped off, authorities said Thursday.
Deputies are searching for the man the woman dropped off just after 11 p.m. Wednesday in the area of Vermont and Manchester avenues during the chase, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Robert Furman said.
A containment area was set up for the male suspect, who is possibly armed, according to Furman, while the female suspect continued driving.
The woman, believed to be between 18 and 20 years old, led deputies on a short chase but the pursuit was canceled a few minutes later as authorities decided to let a helicopter track the stolen four-door Volkswagen, Furman said.
The woman eventually came to a stop in the 3100 block of Normandie Avenue, where she ran into a residence at about 11:20 p.m. and surrendered shortly after without incident, Furman said. No one was injured in the pursuit.
There was no description for the man who exited the vehicle.
