Mother Of 2 Reportedly Stabbed To Death In West Hills By Estranged Husband

WEST HILLS (CBSLA.com) —  Authorities say a mother of two was stabbed to death Saturday by her estranged husband outside a friend's home in West Hills.

The fatal stabbing occurred about 7:30 a.m. in the 7100 block of Deveron Ridge Road, said Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The victim -- now identified as 43-year-old Michelle Kane -- was stabbed multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene, according to Herrera. The suspect is now identified as Michael Rodney Kane, 46.

Authorities believe he is driving a silver or mint-colored 1999 Chrysler 300M. (The license plate is 4HGP487).

Police said that Michelle Kane went to authorities just yesterday to say her estranged husband had violated a restraining order.

Neighbors told reporters they heard the victim begging him to "stop it."

One neighbor told CBS2's Art Barron that he woke up to his sister screaming. "She said, ''There's a woman laying, bleeding in the street,'" said Colin Spector.

"My mother came rushing out with a towel. She turned her over and started to put pressure on her. She tried to do mouth-to-mouth. There was too much blood. I started to do compressions," said Spector.

"We are investigating why she was at this residence. We do know she had a restraining order against her husband. This is a friend's residence," said LAPD Homicide Detective Dave Peteque.

The victim was at the friend's house with her two young daughters, according to detectives.

The estranged husband somehow made entry into the friend's home. Neighbors told Barron the estranged husband confronted his wife in the kitchen and the friend tried to intervene. Authorities told Barron the friend was stabbed in the hand.

The victim left the home where police say her estranged husband then fatally stabbed her after confronting her a second time.

The woman's children are safe and staying with relatives.

Police went to Kane's residence, at Fallbrook and Vanowen. Neighbors told them they saw Kane bloodied. One neighbor thought he needed help and let him into the complex.

Authorities believe Kane is injured, according to KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo.

Police urged anyone with information to contact LAPD Topanga Homicide Detectives at (818) 756-3360.
