Woman Allegedly Armed With Gun Fatally Shot By Long Beach Police

LONG BEACH (CBSLA) — A woman allegedly armed with a gun was shot and killed Friday morning during an officer-involved shooting in Long Beach.

Officers responded to the 2800 block of Golden Avenue around 5:15 a.m. following a 9-1-1 call about a man who appeared to have had a heart attack and also a woman threatening suicide, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

It later turned out the man was dead inside the residence with a laceration to his neck, officials said. Officers did not discover him right away because as they entered the residence and observed a large amount of blood, officers were immediately confronted by a woman with a rifle.

The responding officers quickly exited the residence and attempted to de-escalate the situation.

They attempted to communicate with the woman and get her out of the residence but she did not respond, the department said.

The officers said they saw the woman point a rifle at them, at which point an officer-involved shooting occurred.

The woman was fatally wounded in the shooting, LBPD said. Her name was not immediately available.

The officers then and discovered the man on a bedroom floor "with a serious laceration to his neck," LBPD said. As of Friday evening, investigators were still trying to find out how he was wounded.

Detectives believe the two decedents knew each other though it was unclear what lead up to the man's death or what the woman's motive was. A rifle was recovered at the scene.
