GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — A 49-year-old woman was killed Saturday morning when an SUV slammed into a tree on a freeway offramp in Glendale, the California Highway Patrol reported.
A 45-year-old man, who was driving the Toyota SUV, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to County-USC Medical Center, CHP Officer Monica Posada said.
The crash occurred at around 2 a.m. on the Pacific Avenue offramp on the westbound side of the 134 Freeway.
The vehicle appeared to have rolled off the freeway's westbound lanes and onto the offramp, according to a news photographer at the scene who said Glendale firefighters had to cut both victims from the wreckage.
Wendelin Jung, of Eagle Rock, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Coroner's officials.
The man driving has not been identified. His condition is unknown.
The offramp was closed until 5 a.m. as officials investigated the crash, the CHP reported.
