Stepfather ID'd As Person Of Interest In Fatal Stabbing Of Young Woman

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday were looking for the stepfather of a young woman who was found stabbed to death at a Hawthorne apartment complex.

Police discovered Naquia Catching shortly before 7:30 p.m. in the 4800 block of West 118th Street, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

"Detectives have learned that Hawthorne Police Department received a call from the mother of the victim. The mother stated when she arrived home, she found her 22-year-old daughter inside the apartment injured and unresponsive," Deputy Don Walker said.

Catching was pronounced dead at the scene and detectives identified her stepfather as a person of interest.

"He called my aunt and told her he had a surprise for her. When she arrived home, she found her daughter with her neck sliced and on the floor," a family member told CBS2/KCAL9.

The man's identity was not released. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
