Woman Found Shot To Death In Crashed SUV Off 710 Freeway In Paramount; Gunman At Large
PARAMOUNT (CBSLA) – A woman was found shot to death in an SUV which crashed off the 710 Freeway in Paramount early Tuesday morning after the driver fled the scene and remains on the loose.
The incident occurred near the Rosecrans Avenue onramp to 710 Freeway at around 1:50 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol.
CHP officers arrived on scene to find a woman in the SUV with a gunshot wound. She died at the scene. Her name was not released. She's believed to be in her 20s or 30s.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's investigators believe the woman was shot by the driver, who ran away. A handgun was recovered just outside the SUV and a man was seen fleeing the vehicle, the sheriff's department said.
A short time later a resident in a nearby neighborhood said a man knocked on her door asking for help, the sheriff's department reports. However, he then ran away. Investigators believe that man is the wanted driver.
"What probably happened is they became involved in an altercation inside the car," sheriff's Lt. Barry Hall told reporters. "At about that time the shot was fired, the woman was struck by gunfire. And as a result, the driver crashed."
There was no word on a motive or whether investigators had identified the suspect.
