Woman Finds Grenade In Tool Box Prompting Bomb Squad Response In Pomona
POMONA (CNS) — Police said a woman cleaning her stepfather's garage in Pomona found a grenade in a tool box, prompting a bomb squad response.
The device was found about 3:10 p.m. in the 600 block of West Fernleaf Avenue, according to police.
It was the second explosives-in-a-garage scare in as many days in the Southland.
In the Sunday incident, LASD explosives handlers were called to investigate. Neighbors were given the option to evacuate the area, Pomona police Sgt. Patrick O'Malley said.
The bomb squad removed the device, which appeared to be a live grenade, and the all-clear was given just after 4 p.m., the sergeant said.
Police said the grenade belonged to a recently-deceased war veteran.

On Saturday, new homeowners cleaning a garage in Eagle Rock found what looked like eight sticks of dynamite.
A bomb squad responded and the surrounding area was evacuated.
Authorities gave the all-clear after it was determined the possible explosives were actually a movie prop.
