Woman Killed By Intruder Inside San Bernardino Apartment
SAN BERNARDINO (CBSLA.com) — Police Tuesday were searching for a suspect who killed a young mother in her apartment.
San Bernardino police received a 911 call from 26-year-old Michelle Miers around 11 p.m. Monday, officials said.
She told authorities that she had been attacked by a suspect who had broken into her apartment.
Police didn't have an exact location of the woman, but used her cellphone's GPS to locate her to the area of the 4300 block of North Sierra Way, authorities said.
During their search for the victim, officers came upon a broken sliding glass door at the Edgehill Apartments in the 100 block of West 43rd Street. They then found Miers on the floor, covered in blood.
She was transported to a hospital, where she died from gunshot and stabbing wounds to her upper torso.
"We don't believe this was a random attack. We believe there was probably more of a story here; however, we are still very early in the investigation," Lt. Rich Lawhead said.
No suspect description was released.
Police have taken in the victim's estranged spouse for questioning.
Miers was the mother of two children, ages 5 and 6.
Just last month, she was shot in the ear by a former boyfriend, police said. The suspect in that incident was arrested and has been in police custody since.
