Woman Arrested In Connection With Fiery Crash That Killed 1 In Orange
ORANGE (CBSLA.com) — Police say they have made an arrest in connection with a fatal crash in Orange Thursday night.
Stephanie DeRosas, 32, of Orange, was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter in connection with the crash that happened at 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Chapman Avenue and Yorba Street. Investigators suspect DeRosas was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision, Orange police Sgt. Phil McMullin said.
According to police, a gray sedan was driving west on Chapman Avenue and was rear-ended by a black sedan, pushing it into Yorba Street, where it caught fire.
Orange firefighters put out the blaze and paramedics pronounced the driver of the gray car dead at the scene, McMullin said. The man's name was withheld pending notification of his family.
DeRosas, who was driving the black car that rear-ended the dead driver's car, suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, McMullin said.
A third vehicle was stopped at the red light and ended up being side-swiped in the crash. That driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to McMullin.
