Woman Accused Of Murdering Her Daughter, 10, To Stand Trial
LONG BEACH (CBS) — A woman accused of fatally stabbing her 10-year-old daughter at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro was ordered Monday to stand trial on a murder charge.
Long Beach Superior Court Judge Jesse Rodriguez found sufficient evidence to require the case against Bong Sook Chavez, 50, to proceed to trial.
The woman -- described earlier as the wife of a retired Navy reservist -- is accused of stabbing her daughter, Quesi, about 2:30 a.m. July 9. Officials said after attacking her daughter, Chavez then tried to kill herself.
Police said earlier this year that a preliminary investigation suggested that the girl was in bed at the time of the stabbing.
Chavez and her daughter were both taken to a hospital. The girl died several hours later.
Chavez was arrested later that afternoon by the Los Angeles Police Department's Juvenile Division and has remained jailed since then on $1 million bail.
Fort MacArthur is an administrative center and residential community for the U.S. Air Force.
