Woman, 19, In Grave Condition After Lancaster Hit-And-Run
LANCASTER (CBS) — A 19-year-old woman remained hospitalized Friday in what sheriff deputies described as "very grave" condition "and deteriorating" after a hit-and-run in Lancaster.
The driver that struck Macaia Miller remained at large, deputies said.
Two witnesses described the suspect's vehicle as a maroon or dark red four-door mid-sized sedan.
Miller was walking southwest across Avenue J around 8:45 p.m. on Monday when she was struck, according to deputies at the Lancaster Station.
Miller was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital, where she is in the critical care unit, deputies said.
The driver of the vehicle fled west toward Division Street, deputies said.
The vehicle probably has extensive front end damage to the hood and windshield and possibly the front bumper, the radiator grill and the roof, deputies said. A witness said the vehicle might have been a mid-size Buick or a similar looking sedan.
Another witness told officials a newer model silver Jeep Liberty stopped shortly after the collision. Officials do not believe this vehicle was involved in the crash, but the occupants may have been witnesses to the incident and may have important information.
Sheriff's officials urged anyone with information on the case to help find the suspect or suspect's vehicle by calling Sgt. Brian Dunn or traffic investigator Richard Dailey at (661) 948-8466.
